What have these eyes seen

What have these eyes seen

A Poem by Budd Black
"

I was thinking about my grandmother and how much the world had changed in her lifetime. She passed in October at 89yrs old. Probably the 89yrs that have changed more than any before.

"

It all started so simple

Hard work and toil

Simple people, simple work

Simple hands working soil

Then came poverty

Nothing for no one

The winds blew dust

Earth burnt by the sun

Onward, the march to war

Men gave their life

And more war and again

Almost constant strife

Oh the changes, they came

From horses to cars

Radios to television sets

The moon and someday mars

Looking all the way back

The world isn't the same

Almost impossible to fathom

Once wild, now tame

Done in very small doses

So they were hard to see

But looking back I notice

the way things used to be

What have these eyes seen?

Why, they have seen everything
