Fear Can Make You Compromise

Fear Can Make You Compromise

A Poem by Ruminating Archaeologist
"

can't you see that I've been tied to a chair by my own ropes, and I cannot escape or move or break for fear of hurting myself in the process.

"

can't you see that I've been

tied to a chair by my own ropes,

and I cannot escape or move or break

for fear of hurting myself in the process.

I can't be

some idle magician,

with the ability to pull rabbits out of top hats,

or flowers from sleeves.

if anything, I'm just

a player in his game-

an audience member

being cut in half

by sharpened blades.

In the end, for you

all it comes down to

is a flick of the wrist

and the murmur of some magic words.

at least something changes, for sure,

but I don't look at mirrors nowadays

the smoke just makes me want to get caught in the haze

and I watch your back as you walk away

for fear of destroying what I made in progress,

but I leave behind what can't be put back in place.

Author's Note

Ruminating Archaeologist
dunno if I like it, but felt like I had to write something about it...
rhyme scheme of things feels off in the end there. I didn't really know how to finish it.
