Fine

Fine

A Poem by A.Lee

"How's it going?"
You have to ask
You smile, so hopeful that the worst has passed
But all I have to tell is the sad one's tale
Of a life so dim; of the one doomed to fail

You're staring still
The waiting game
But all I feel is just the same
The endless pain, confusion, hurt
Just dying to hide my face in the dirt

The same bad news
I always tell
A life that resembles a living hell
Sickness looms predicting loss
Love's no longer worth the cost

There's no more sun
To light my day
Just darkened clouds and pouring rain
No one's arms to hold me tight
But I don't want you to see me cry

So I take a breath
Perfected lie
"How's it going?"
"Oh, I'm fine"

i love this, the phrase "i'm fine" is a very common everyday word. We'd say it to hide our emotions, and mostly it helps a lot because its the first step in taking control. I love this much more because it concerns everyone because hardly will you see someone that had never used that world to hide from the world. Thanks for sharing this.

wow - just had a conversation about this the other day. How we get into our shells and give the cliche answers of "i'm fine" "doing pretty good" "you know, hanging in there..." when on the inside our world is falling apart. Loved how you set up the chaos and the falling apart side of things...and then gave the lie at the end....it's so....NOW!
