Pizza Hut and Cherry Blossoms

Pizza Hut and Cherry Blossoms

A Poem by Ericka Pryor

I didn't think we'd end up like this.
Started in the backseat of your roommate's car,
Now look where we are.
Pizza Hut and cherry blossoms
Linger on our bed.
We spend hours watching dumb cop shows;
Cookie dough ice cream somehow gets on my nose.
My dad told you to get out while you still could.
I'm glad you didn't listen,
Though everyone thinks you should
Run away like the others did.
I'm crazy and impulsive,
Loaded down with emotional baggage;
Scarred and damaged.
It's what they all say.
You tell me you don't see me that way.
You know I'm damaged goods and that's okay;
You love me anyway.
You're my King and I'm your Queen;
Nothing will ever come between.
We fight and yell,
But in the end,
I know I'm always your best friend.
