Good Can Fail

You know, sometimes life's not fair

and it's so easy to just not care

Tough time's often come your way

and it's so easy to just run away

But be strong, and face your fears

or they'll haunt you for all your years.

 

We've all heard the saying, "Good shall prevail"

Well, obviously, in this world, good can fail.

So what then you ask, is a good person to do?

Well, obviously, you stand tall and stay true.

There's no guarantee, that it'll end your plight,

but in the end, you'll know you've done right.

This whole poem is just tight. Tight meaning, tight meter, tight rhyme, and it all supports the simple but not easy truth. I couldn't tell you how to do it better, so I guess this is more of a tout than a critique. And using 'obviously' was ballsy--so many syllables in so few letters makes it tricky but you pulled it off.

I really like and relate to this piece. I've had many "Why-do-I-do-what's-right-if-it-doesn't-make-a-difference" moments and I see that reflected here in a sad but still more optimistic way;

"You'll know you've done right."

I dearly hope I can claim that in the end...

Good can fail...that is so true. Very inspirational and totally relatable poem...this shows great insight into life. I love "But be strong, and face your fears or they'll haunt you for all your years." and the closing two lines. Amazing lines, great piece.
