Ode to a Giant

Ode to a Giant

A Poem by Cameron Berry

a giant, graceful and swift
craterous traces, punishing heathen
always with supreme love

embodiment, beautiful anima
the giant is Mary
the giant is you, is I, is kin

merciful giant
in mere minutes we can count
down until we reach feather bottom

carried down gently
spiralling into chaos and resolve
echoed by silence

what beautiful maiden
is this wrought from the giant’s soul?
playful and joyous flout

it is getting late
the giant asked me to stay
nay, ma says dinner is waiting

wake to sun and calm
dreams are built of comfort
of pain, and love, and peas, and carrots
