Ballad for an Invisible Person

Ballad for an Invisible Person

It happens every time
Don't know how I arrived
Inside this museum
Of my own design
These canvases so absurd
Past and future converge
Into the blur of memory
There must be a door somewhere

I remember where I was
When I first heard
The sound of resentment
Those tired tires
Screaming from the driveway
All the way to the corner
And he never looked back
...
If I saw him again
Would he be the same?
Chained to the ankles of Jesus
As a coping mechanism
Cause that b***h who raised him up
Crushed his spirit continuously
She's tried that s**t on me
Please know I understand

Fetus child
You left too soon
Found it hard to breathe
In that little room
Where are you now?
Are you floating around
Fully fledged in some dimension
Are you still growing?
Two beautiful kids
Manifested from the tears
Your parents shed
Silently for several years
If you were here
They wouldn't exist
You sacrificed yourself
Without even knowing it

I hear they're well

Sick of all these
Synchronicities
This automatic writing
Was an angel really guiding
My wrist on the page?
Or prompting me to look away
To a clock on the wall
At a certain time and place?
And if I faced this
Open palmed no expectations
Elbow deep with belief
Down the gullet of God
Would I feel something?
Anything...
At all?

I feel nothing anymore
Every step is such a strain
I keep imagining myself
Jacked up by a train
Eating my brains
Off the windshield cracks
Get me some knowledge back
I know I'm lacking something
But I won't find it here
Down the hallways of repentance
Memories won't alleviate
Any distance
Nothing stays in place
You've no foundation to erase
And you're so scared/sick of pain
So you push everything away

There's the door

.................................

If these pretty words
Could make you feel OK
I think I'd probably sit silently
To see what's changed
In your face as you look up
Sad and disappointed
At me

i see suicide...the subject driven to it, mostly by his parents...neglected, expected to be...and then ignored, implored to be what he or she is not...
a person more disappointed in him or herself than others ....finally ends it...and the parents feel no sadness or remorse, just a relief that they can back to their own lives.

I'm always awed by your perspective. Thank you.

Very elegantly put. The indirectness adds to its appeal, letting your sadness and sense of loss bleed through. I particularly liked the pathos of the closing verse. Well done.

Real interesting. I must say I have no clue what any of this means or what the connection between the verses could possibly be, but there's something about it. I can't quite put my finger on it, but that could simply be because I have no fingers. Anyways, don't know who you are, but ya got something here kiddo! AH CHA CHA CHA!
