Truce

Truce

A Poem by Chris Shaw

Calm, the lass whose feathered pillows
cradle round her sleeping head,
with her teddy tucked beside her
anchored in her peaceful bed.

In her lilac painted haven,
drapes of purple neatly drawn,
sequinned satin, scattered cushions,
velvet throws to keep her warm.

Soft the lamplight on long lashes,
not a trace of daytime clashes
nor the sudden temper flashes,
whipped into a frenzied storm.

Angels when asleep, demons when awake, but would you have it any other way? Erm, yeah, most likely :)
Remember when they were seen and not heard? Tell a kid that today and you would be as well trying to explain the subtle differences between vhs and betamax :)
I just realised why I am thinking what I am now thinking "i havent seen the gremlins movie in ages" :)

Gee
Used to love watching the wee one sleep, would often stand over her wishing for all good things to happen in her life.
Guess we were lucky as she was never stroppy or brattish, only ever cried when I'll or hungry.
My mates boy however, jeez, could have shot him with a horse sedative many a time.
Really like this one Christine

Enjoy the wedding. Home today and happy to be so Gee.
Do I detect a certain sense of relief from those infant tantrums Chris. Even as doting grandparents, we have our limits...... now WE need the lullabys.

your descriptive words float as they lay out an olive branch and wave a white flag in peace. if only we could all hold onto the peace and comfort of night and sleep and carry it with us throughout the day, so much conflict would be avoided. this is sweet and beautiful Chris and so well written. i love every word of it ... :)

Children are very much this way -- stormy emotions juxtaposed against gentle, angelic innocence. You have captured this beautifully. My only suggestion would be to punctuate the entire piece as you have the second stanza.

Great poem Chris, sure is a typical child, Sweet and innocent, as well as angelic when asleep. And a demonic hurricane when awake.
