Sunrise from Gull Haven

Sunrise from Gull Haven

A Poem by Chris Shaw

low sun on the horizon
in slow motion
serenely through dawn sky
dolphins, arched backs
black and graceful
swim in pink deep sea
interspersed with gold surf
don't leave me
don't leave me lonely

I am a mermaid I can't leave my dolphins and whales lonely... nor the sea, nor the interspersed sun... awa! dear Chris, your last two lines haunted me... they leave such a sentimental effect on the reader, like the sincerest, truest most gentlest plea.... an ethereal little piece.

This little poem is at least two things, but not necessarily in the order I now intend to list them below ..

1) Beautiful
2) Sad

Many thanks dear Fran for stopping by to review. All good wishes.

I love watching the different phases of the horizon which this masterful poem portrays so well. Dolphins too are one of my faves. As you glimpse and marvel, we marvel at your train of thought to heaven...

“Interspersed with gold surf” … only your poetic notions could paint a Sunrise on the Horizon with a Lovers lament. Gently, Pat

Hi Chris, these beautiful skylines remind me of oh-so-rare flashes of what I call "perfect Clarity," that come in a blink, deliver a "glimpse" and evaporate in a flash, leaving me sad and wanting more. I imagine everyone has experienced this (probably just a cerebral short circuit haha), but I can't recall ever having actually asked anyone. ...Have you? :)

This sounds like the memory of an impressive moment. Sometimes, often when we are not expecting it, a sight will catch our sight and hold it with its beauty. It is like a mini-mystical experience, as though we have experienced a moment of higher consciousness. Of course, like all in this plane, it will pass and we will feel the less for it. But these sights are ever with us, if we are ready to receive them.

The other evening I was heading home along a busy, mundane ’A’ road, yet the sky was breathtaking, full of Husky pinks and every shade of blue that you can imagine. At certain times I believe for many of us worlds merge, so as I read this wonderful piece, I’m not sure whether you watched dolphins swim in a bay of delicate light early one morning or if you watched the dawn and it’s cloudy magnificent skies cast shapes upon the imagination. I like both versions either way ;)

Hi Chris, sounds like a wonderful sunrise. I can picture this beautiful scene so easily. I guess, since I love sunrises, I like to see it as a sunrise, reader's prerogative. This is a beautiful little poem that sings straight into the heart with its gentle words and images. Shoot me now, Chris. Title - "Sunrise From Gull Haven. don't know where my brain is this evening. Truly beautiful, Chris. Have a wonderful evening. Hugs always....Mike.

Hi Chris, you are ever welcome. Have a wonderful Tuesday. Hugs always....Mike.
dear Chris… I am thinking of Gull Cottage in the Movie “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”. Another Olde Movie that tugs your Heart. Mrs. Muir was lonely and leaving by the Sea in a Cottage haunted by a Sea Captain was her Saving Grace. A lovely poem with secret Innuendoes…. Gently, Pat
