Lend Me Your Ears

Lend Me Your Ears

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

From the archives and a visit to the weir.

"
Before your eyes are mesmerised
by water gushing through this weir,
do you hear the pounding sound of
marbled crystal as it tumbles,
as it stumbles over concrete,
crashing to the depths below?
Take a respite, take a moment,
listen to the noise of thunder
and the mighty roar of anguish
as the wayward, whirling foam boats,
pirouette in swirling waters,
whisked meringues of many egg-whites,
whipped into a frothing frenzy,
humbled by the river's flow.

ohhhh i like this Chris ... if one heeds your voice the experience is exquisite .. the roar, the foam and mist on my face ... if one doesn't have the memory of a weir somewhere in their lives .. they need to take a moment ;) i especially like the personification of the foam in anguish ... brilliant says i! simply brilliant!

I love water, both still & rushing . . . you've described "white water" like no other! This is spectacular, how imaginative you are in painting a variety of imagery around tumbling water! Very frothy & now I'm humbled! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Row, row, row your boat and I might add row the imagination flowing along the dam on the river. Rivers can be the life lines of many things and the time line of may things. I can feel your wonderful poem as the connection to all beauty has to offer through the senses.

You too. You are welcome.
Now why did i wonder if this was going to be about Mark Antony coming to bury Caesar? lol

Instead i find a lovely descriptive poem, the likes of which are my favourites...

Perhaps Mark Antony did me a favour bringing me here :)

I love how the waves get passed along in this site you wrote of water as i just did yesterday:) I finally finished my water poem last night and spent way to many hours on I should add:) and two weeks ago Barley wrote about trains while I was writing about them mulling in my head for a while that one was! You could of written this poem to me as a letter for it is all I was musing about for at least a 10 days:) I have to say it is fun to read your early writes cause I can see you in them even tho your voice has evolved it has that Chris Voice in it still. My family used to have a boat docked below the base of a lock and the roar of the gushing water was ever prevalent I remember as a small boy loving to sleep on the boat and hearing the lullaby and the rocking motion of the boat pulling at my dreams. That is what this reminded me of

OK. I'll have a look :)
Water over a weir / waterfall
The sounds are the same
Water races down stream tumbling over the rocks
Over the chasm to land in a never ending crescendo of thunder on the rocks below

I have a picture of Godafoss in Iceland on our first day > like a mini Victoria Fall
