The suitcase

The suitcase

A Poem by Firebird
"

About attachment

"
I was briefly happy
for a day.
I thought I'd won.
It never lasts.

I dreamed the dream
again last night.
Moving house,
moving country.
Not much fits
in a suitcase,
Precious things
get left behind.
I woke up
in cold sweat,
tears in freefall.
Then I realised.
It's not things
I want to keep,
it's people.

Nicely expressed. Relatable, reminds me of all the places I have left valuable stuff behind, like yearbooks and what not because I didn't have room. We need to become aware of what we attach ourselves to because a lot of times it is things that aren't important. Really well said!

Thank you for that !
yes, ...my mom once asked me..."don't you want things, like we have?"

my response was ..."i want friends and love" can't take "things" with you, and they don't make you happy...

That is so true. The problem comes when you attach yourself to someone and they don't want that.

Oh :/ yes I suppose that's sometimes it.
Wow! Great Poem! I love the simplicity and brevity of it, and of course the story that it has to tell. I think you have beautifully captured something that we all eventually have to discover, that we need people more than any material possession. Thanks for the interesting poem.
