Words: A Choice We Make

Words: A Choice We Make

A Poem by Carole

Word's that cut like a knife and wound to the core of our very being

    "Stupid!"

"You're ugly, too skinny, too fat!"

    "You'll never amount to anything!"

"I wish you had never been born!"

    " I hate you!"

" I wish you were dead!"

Words of discouragement tearing down the ones we love

Regret,

Anguish,

Shame,

And

Remorse.

Wishing we could take back every hurtful word

Like rewinding a voice recorder

But, they have already done their damage

Already maimed the innocent

Crippling them

Damaging their tender spirits

Maybe a spouse,

A significant other,

A sister,

A brother,

Your Child

Words that encourage like a healing Salve

Lift up

Build up

Edify

Mend

Heal

Mold

And

Shape

A

Future

No Regret,

Shame,

Anguish,

Or

Remorse.

In their place

Peace

Joy

Contentment

Knowing that we are building

Our World

And

Not Tearing it

D

O

W

N

With our tongues

It’s a choice.

Your choice.

My choice.

This who Jesus is,,everything diffrent than what was written here. I thank you for the write . It helps us as humans put life in perspective . We shall talk and learn know each other more as we go along,,,GBU,,RodneyRay

'Each smallest act of kindness reverberates across great distances... affecting lives unknown... because kindness is passed on and grows each time it's passed, until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each expression of hatred, each act of evil.' H R White.

We do have a choice of the world we build through the words we wield.

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of this poem.

This gives great advice, not to put others down and that words can either make or breaka person so watch what you say and hopefully say somthing nice.
When you say mean things you really are just putting yourself down.

opefully people will realize that they need to help people in their time of need and not say "your stupid" when they do something wrong

Thanks for sharing

Bravo, this just about says it all. Words can cut like a knife and saying I'm sorry doesn't take the hurt away
that words can inflict. Great write.

People should know...before they open their mouths and say anything...they are the commander of it...after they open their mouths and say it..It is the comander of you..If people cannot think of anything nice to say..It is better to keep their mouths shut and appear ignorant, than to open it and remove all doubt...[daddys words]..Words can cut deeper than a knife..just ask any abused person..which do the remember most..the words or the hits..God bless Valentine

I try to teach, that we are not as others perceive us. My grand children have learned this and insults roll off their backs. They make me proud.

Words can be such powerful things. We must be so mindful of how we use them. Especially true for those to whom God has given the ability to write.
Nice piece of work here.

You really nailed it with this poem. It got me thinking of this quote;

Proverbs 12:18 (New International Version)

18 Reckless words pierce like a sword,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

We are the only one responsible for that muscle in our mouth.
Great composition.

I love the message of this poem. We're told as children that "stick and stones can break our bones, but words will never harm me," and that's such a complete lie. Your poem illustrates that fact so perfectly and then you go beyond that, to the healing power of words. This is an elegant, thoughtful poem and I'm so happy that you shared it.

take care :)

Amen to that, Carol. The tongue can be a lethal weapon! And we have a choice to put a lock on that weapon and use it to uplift, encourage and nurture.

Thanks for writing that.
