Misery Loves Company

Misery Loves Company

A Poem by Carole
"

An old adage that remains true today. When we're miserable, being around people that are truly happy gets under our skin. Sadly, it doesn't have to be that way...

"

Misery loves company

It’s so very plain to see

Seeing others happy

Purports a nominal fee

So much barren darkness

And momentous personal pain

Prompts striking out at others

A pronounced regressive gain

Hurt people-Hurt people

It’s all they’ve ever known

A skill they haven’t had to practice

They haven’t had to hone

To counteract ardent sadness within

Not being happy with the person they are

They lower their standard in life

They thoughtlessly lower the bar

With an exorbitant low self-esteem

They cut others down without a thought

In hopes of elevating themselves

Sadly, it’s all they’ve been taught

Blind to whom they have become

Blatantly denying whom they see

Filled with apprehension and fear

Fraught with morose insecurities

Admitting the truth is half the battle

Coming to terms with the negatives within

A change of heart is all it takes

To initiate a new start-and begin once again

This is a powerful statement of TRUTH. So many people don't see themselves
as the person others see themselves to be.

The last sentence is a perfect ending to you piece, as well as the begining to being free! ~ Jude xoxo :-)

I like how you frame this with those two pictures. I especially like the photo. But the writing itself is the topic and I found myself pulled into the world you write. I wasn't sure about the rhyme, but as I read I saw how deft with words you are. Excellent vocabulary, but more the ability to use it. Well done.

Both "evil" and "good" pay forward.....
All...spirits have a dominoe-gathering effect... touching n agreeing
one...grabbing another as they go along...

one who is suffering spiritual attack...strikes out in that same spirit ...and then some

so true and well put ...

PS: "Purports"....good word sis !

Blesssssssssss

Beautifully written piece. It is so true that hurt people hurt other people. And that it's all they've ever known. My belated husband was like that. The title Misery loves company is a very fitting title to this poem. Thank you for sharing. Debileah

So so very true. Sad but true. A wonderfully penned piece about a very real problem.

Never before have I seen a poem which actually takes something like a well-known phrase and speaks about the truth, the real truth. This is totally true, and I think everyone that reads this has to agree. You've written this in such a powerful way, it's striking, thoughtful and really shouts out to the reader. I love the way you've used colour and illustration to underline a point, and I love how the two pictures, while contrasting in style, both seem to share the same theme and match the sad beauty of your text!
A fantastic write, thank you for sharing!

Ain't this the truth personified, it seems some people just aren't happy unless they are miserable... I have learned over the years to just stay clear of them cause misery is a very catchy disease. Incredible write.

So very true . . . it's a shame! But it is very true. . . . for "there are none so blind as those who REFUSE to see"! Nice work. enjoyably written

Perhaps for some people misery loves company..If I feel miserable I love going to be with my fellow church members where there is love, kindness and understanding and prayer..Always leave with a different point of view and smiles for those I meet..Life is what we make it..God bless..Valentine
