Every Road Leads To Home

Every Road Leads To Home

A Poem by Joyce Marie
"

A place where love was thicker than molasses. Some of the greatest riches can never be bought

"

Out past Snow's corner

My mind wanders back for  awhile

To a cozy  town down by the river

country fields for miles and miles

Big red barns and picket fences

maple syrup and homemade jam

grandma callin me in for supper

mashed potaoes and honey ham

Playing at the swimming hole til sundown

catching lightning bugs in a jar

got my first kiss beneath a willow tree

in Mrs. Gardner's back yard

Listening to the crickets sing

as I tuck myself in bed

mamma sneaking in my bedroom

just to kiss me on the head

Sittin on Grandaddy's lap

listening to stories of the past

He said hold on to these moments child

for nothing surely last

Love was thicker than molasses

and family was held so dear

friendships couldn't be severed

gone are the golden years

Yes,  I remember all the family

that once gathered around

and all of my loved ones

that are asleep in the ground

Those days are long gone

I traveled awhile down this road

but no matter where life takes me

every road leads to home

So touching, insightful and brilliantly written, i liked the third stanza especially, it made me smile a bit. You are wise beyond your years!

This could be a country song. X3 It's very well written - like a story - and has good rhythm.
