Awaken, dreamer

Awaken, dreamer

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

From "An Owl on the Moon"

"

What fills your heart with fright?

Is it brilliant day or darking night?

The howling sun consumes

the paling sparkle of the moon

With step on step you find

the tortured banter of your mind

Now clouds your shifting sky

Awaken, dreamer, it’s time to die...

A fresh way to approach the universal theme of light vs dark. I love your descriptions & the way the moon & sun can be symbols of various good & bad things that come at regular cycles in life. My favorite little bit of word-crafting: "The howling sun consumes the paling sparkle of the moon." (very original & vividly expressed).

There are times when time holds too much of everything. There are moments when tears near drown us, when laughter causes pain body-full.. I could be horribly wrong, but there's a sense of being caged no... locked in a cell.. no light, no light. Maybe, just maybe, its a place in which to be lost.. because leaving might be far worse. Perhaps?

Your words might be brief in this excerpt from your writing but oh! how it tempts thought to see itself... 'that tortured banter of your mind' .. ..

I loved the way you began this poem. Just reading the first question sent a shiver down my spine! Why must the dreamers always die? Haha, anyway, this was an intriguing read. Filled with mystery & haunting feels. I'm wondering what frightens me most...I would say darkness simply because that's when the world is silent, you're by yourself & your mind has complete freedom to roam with your thoughts. Your most dangerous thoughts always arrive within the darkening hour...they scare me to death some nights, but I always see it through to see the sun come up and watch them disappear.

You are welcome! The pleasure was mine ☺
Maybe I'm off base, but this brings memories of my struggles with depression. It seems like the first three parts, though beautiful, are eluding to something terrible, and the last, well it makes me think of that feeling when I was really high and happy like a dreamer, and then all of a sudden the world was ending, and yes, the sky shifted. Thank-you for writing

Thank you, Paul! May this week only bring you more inspiration.
Wow...just...wow.
I love this so much.
It's beautiful in its flow and rhythm...gently luring the reader forward, only to let them smack into the wall of: 'Awaken, dreamer, it's time to die...'

There are so many lines in this short poem that I love:
The howling sun consumes/the paling sparkle of the moon...what an amazing visual this is.
the tortured banter of your mind...just so rich in imagery and description. Love it.

This is a beautiful piece.
