I stood in the storm and swallowed the sky...

A Poem by Craig Froman
"
Tornado sirens sounded this morning and I went outside and felt the sky wrap around me…
"

Sirens, first low-humming,

building, shrieking at the sky…

White fire scream-streaking

burning through the atmosphere…

Come the drums of flames

fierce burning, rumbling, deep

trembling clouds hovering,

dancing in slow-motion tremors…

Frantic feelings fade to sacred awe

in the crispness of the air…

Scented breezes thrust and rush,

breathing over my skin…

Tasting electricity in the wind,

the earth alive and moving…

Birds are still and silent

as rain flees the clouds in panic…

I stood in the storm

and swallowed the sky…

What a wonderful poem, what a wonderful step-by-step description of one of the most glorious of Nature's displays.

Your choice of words and their threading is always beautifully 'spot on' : ' White fire scream-streaking
burning through the atmosphere ' and again.. ' Scented breezes thrust and rush, breathing over my skin…'

And then.. then you reach those two final lines and I felt like cheering and crying ... you express true poetic exhileration!
