The dying Poet
Written by: C. Lee Battaglia

Light! more light! the shadows deepen,
        And my life is ebbing low,
Throw the windows widely open:
        Light! more light! before I go

Let the sunshine pass over me
let it play around my bed,
And into the dimly lighted valley
Onwards, lonely I must tread

Light! more light! for death is near
Darkness is here waning sight
And I would look towards her
Through the earthly light

And she would be there waiting;
        There she'd be ever so bright,
As the dying poet whispers
        It's a glorious day for light, more light.

I liked your words my friend today.
"And she would be there waiting;

This would be amazing verbal poetry. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I am SURE "she" awaits... within your light.

this is for me referring to that light we supposedly see as we are dying...in Emily Dickinson's "I heard a fly buzz when i died" "between the light and me"
and here death seems welcoming rather than the grim reaper we fear.
well done.

It is one of the awesome work I have read till date. You penned it so well that all my praises would faint before this work. The continuous repetition of 'light' is so melodious and charming! Keep writing!
Thank you!
Hearty Congratulations!!

This is a beautiful piece. I loved how you started with "Light, more light" and ended it with the same. I really felt it. Well done, friend!

Thank you! I appreciate it!
I feel like this is almosta spin-off from The Blonde Girl, and she is “her”. I like the imagery and sentiment in the poem. I can only wonder is you had feelings for this girl? I’m sorry that you had to go through that, no one should have to, but good work! I really enjoyed it, keep writing!
