Crime of the Innocent

Crime of the Innocent

A Poem by AliWatts
"

I wrote this in college. Although, now, I don't think gun laws will do much to prevent gun violence. There is still a need for education in this area, especially with regards to recent events.

"
The world has become
some sort of web that the spider has spun.
Things are out of whack.

People are shooting guns off
like it's cops and robbers,
a game we played as kids.
But those who have fallen don't get off the ground laughing,
wiping the dirt from their pants.
They are escorted off the field,
in this game of life.
Their blood mingling with the rain above.

We ask ourselves why,
but turn away before the answer is given.
The acknowledgement of the deed
& the blame of "who dunnit"
is enough to satisfy.

When you're pointing fingers,
don't forget to point one at yourself.
The shaking heads
and the "what a shame's"
are not a solution.

Will our burning eyes only open
when we feel the heat of a smoking gun?
People, wipe the red paint from your hands.
Don't bother asking for any white chalk,
we just ran out.
