Let's End The Game

Let's End The Game

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A poem about a picture of a pond of water.

"

(Let’s End The Game)

Each circled ripple of water represents a tear

For a family member lost in duty in the war.

How can we ever repay their families?

Who will comfort them at the tables

At Christmas or Thanksgiving this year?

Who will hold their shoulders when they

Discover that the hand of their loved

One has grown cold?

How many ripples in the pond will there

Have to be, until the war is done?

When will our soldiers finally come home?

Will it only be until the war is won?

Winning a game like that doesn’t

Sound like much fun.

The ripple effect describes the effects of war well, and the ripples effect all of us, some more than others...your last lines are very meaningful, what is the point of "winning"?

Great piece.. the last stanza hits hard, and rings true. I would perhaps recommend making the first stanza a bit more poetic.. right now it almost sounds like a description of the piece. Overall, great emotions, nice word choice. Nice job. c:
