My Lucky Charm

My Lucky Charm

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A birthday poem that I wrote for my brother.

"

MY LUCKY CHARM

the 18th of March
was supposed to be my start
but as usual
I was late by arriving
on the 23rd of March instead

as a little girl
I wished to have
a brother or sister
to skate with all day

finally your planned
 arrival was to come
on my birthday March 23rd
Mom planned my eigth
birthday party in advance
on March 18th
to avoid all
chances of any conflict

when my birthday party arrived
Mom's chocolate and strawberry cupcakes
and my favorite raspberry punch were prepared
my grandmother picked me up early from
school to take me to Skateland where my
birthday party would be

after searching high and low
I asked my Grandmother where
my parents were
smiling so wide my Grandmother
said your Mother's in labor dear
she's being air-lifted to Dallas
to give birth to your
new brother or sister

my party was so much fun
but as I blew my candles out
I made a special wish for the
safety of your birth and that you
would be a little boy so I could
have a little boy to play with

how happy I was to hear that you
arrived safely onto this earth
things were touch and go for you
at first due to your premature birth

how excited I was when I first saw
you little brother
you looked like a little yellow
sea-monkey to me

how could I ever know
how close we would one day be
I prayed for you to come year after year
finally the day arrived
 when you were finally here

tears rolled down my
 cheeks when I first
held you in my arms
what a lucky charm you
will always be to me
my baby brother

Well now if that wasn't a strange twist of fate calling you... first sign of how close you'd be... what a sweet way to show love and respect to your bro. Hope he read this.
