Cherokee Land

Cherokee Land

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A love poem.

"

Cherokee Land

When you

turned your back on me in the end,
little did you know that

I had turned my back to you long ago,

only to run towards the

free-spirited heart of a Cherokee warrior.

Oh, what fun we had

riding dune buggies in the sand

and dancing under the moon

in Cherokee land!

I was away at school.

It wasn’t taboo.

In the end,

I might have found it rude for

you to walk away like you did.

But who am I to judge or wag my finger of shame,

when I did the same thing to you long ago.
It was worth every minute to me,
to be held in the strong arms
of a bronzed Cherokee warrior.

You create a powerful story of great history. I understand the story. My Ojibwa Grandmother sang to us and treated us with great love and kindness. We can be blinded by school and too many rules. Life would be wonderful to be free to roam the land and know real freedom from rules and fences. A very good ending to a outstanding poem.

That free spirit of yours comes through, very nicely. I'm sure my Cherokee breatharian would agree.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander ;)

I agree with Coyote, roaming the land without fences and rules might teach a lot that should be learned
