Space Swimmers

Space Swimmers

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A children's ABC poem

"

Space Swimmers

Astronauts do the butterfly stroke gracefully through cold navy cubes of Jell-O

Blueberry is the fruity flavor silver suited astronauts taste as they swim

Children look through their telescopes late at night trying to see the space swimmers

Dreaming of miles and miles of blue Jell-O to eat, red cheeked children sleep

Eating blueberry Jell-O gives the satisfied astronauts blue lips and blue tongues

Frightening to see the astronauts smiling at the cameras on the news with mouths of blue

Grinning shades of blue are beautiful to their families as they watch them smile

I have a newfound respect for the color blue, even though I wear it regularly.

I like how the lines follow the alphabet. It's fun. It's the sort of story people read to little kids. I wonder how crazy it would get if you finished H to Z.
