Cold

Cold

A Poem by Denni

It’s cold outside

And inside.

Everywhere really

But no one else

Feels it

So I’ll stay here

Under layers and layers

Shivering and aching

just a little bit more

What do you mean

“How are you not burning up?”

How are

You

Not freezing?

Sitting there in

Shorts

And that light,

Sleeveless,

Shirt.

The aching starts up

Again.

Like a million ice cubes

All

Slowly

Melting in my stomach

Dripping

Down

To my toes.

It’s taking too long

To get dressed.

I get even

Colder.

Over exposure

To the wind.

There must be a

breeze

in this windowless

room.

It's become too

Tiring,

lifting my arms.

Pushing my feet

through thick baggy

jeans.

I'm so tired that

I just

cant

sleep.

I've long grown tired

of all these

feelings.

All the

crying and sobbing.

Begging for

release.

To slip softly,

gently,

into that deep

eternal rest.

My body is cold

outside

and inside.

After years of pain,

I can finally

sleep.

I can read into feeling "cold" in so many ways, I'm not sure you meant anything symbolically here, but that's where my mind went when I read this, thanks.
