Lords Of The Tempest

Lords Of The Tempest

A Poem by Chris Laverty

Lords of the tempest - ruling wind and rain

that lash eternally your mountain peak,

feel you their human hearts who brings them pain?

they are your marionettes when you havoc wreak,

when their reason dashed on rocks you seek.

From you the troubles of the ages dawn -

when your caverns quake with inward groan,

to waters of despondency they're borne,

by midnight winds ungovernable blown,

or in the mouth of your maelstrom thrown.

Lords of the tempest - through your sleepless nights

the mariner sails; he hears your thunder peal

over beckoning waters; yet harbours lights

blink in the blindness with a hope as real,

as he steadfast steers the sea swept wheel.
