SCHOOL DAYS

SCHOOL DAYS

A Poem by christina sherin
"

School days are the most beautiful part of our life.Sweetest part is we realize it only after crossing it like I did now.

"
                                               SCHOOL DAYS

They walk in streets in uniforms,
Featured smiles on their faces,
Blossoming young petals are they,
Scattered in the sunlight ray.

For once,I was one among them,
Enjoying with friends in school,
Shadows past each new day,
Different shades of friends along the way!

Fun filled classrooms during kinder garden,
Made my childhood's memory,
Exams and Algebra class I miss,
Each numbers and letters have made my school days.

Teachers ,I met were many,
Some were good at teaching ;others good in heart,
Each guided me in a new path,
To toil and to cherish.

The Exams hurry and my late attendance,
Sometimes made me  feel  I was wrong,
But now it's all a colorful experience,
Which makes me to think and laugh.

The School bags I bought were many,
Now I had to throw it away,
But still the school days in my memory,
Something for me to cherish!

For all these days we have been in a cocoon,
The cocoon of our school,
Finally,all the young caterpillars,
Made wings to fly as butterfly....

We fly away from our school,
With beautiful colors in our wings,
For all these days our burden of work,
Has been attached colorfully in our wings.
We are magical wands which learnt to fly,
Blessed with charm and delight ;
We fly towards our goals,
As we have learned in our school......

School days have been fun,
But in life's haste I run,
Towards my destined path,
As young butterfly fluttering in the sky...............

I walk past the memory lane,
Students like whom I was once, passing by,
Still making me to go to reminiscence of past school days,
Made me bold and strong to meet the outer world..........

If you're going to rhyme, then you must rhyme in every stanza, using the rhyming scheme per the kind of poem. The first stanza sets up a reader's expectations of what is to come.

In S1, your rhyme scheme is ABCC (duplicated letters show what rhymes).
S2 is ABCC, too, but you're rhyming day with day. And that's cheating. 🤨
S3 and onward have no rhymes, except for one duplicated word.

Then there's prosody, the flow of words, that use stressed and unstressed syllables to keep a beat much like the words of a song. It's missing.

In short, you need to dig into the tricks-of-the-trade of the poet. For a good introduction to structured poetry take a look at the excerpt The Ode Less Traveled, by Stephen Fry. It's something I suggest to every writer, for what it has to say about the flow of language. It's well worth the time to read it.

A bittersweet reminiscing of the careless days of youth. Our school days can be both sweet and sour when we look back on them.

I enjoyed the piece. Nicely written.
