Elements of Euclid

Elements of Euclid

A Poem by Angela Mulley

What dart of equilateral sides,
pierced my heart from the skies?
And when my heart began to bleed,
Withdrew the earth from my feet?

For what beauty, and what lies
of winter face and leaf-shaped eyes
came creeping in from the night
so soft the heavens heard my sighs?

Or the crimson cheeks of the sun when set,
as she awaits the moon and his silhouette.
For like the moon when she left,
my heart wriggled inside my chest.

What measurement of A to B,
moulded her heart unto me.
Axiomatic. Truth I could not flee.
Love blinded so I could not see.

Really like the interwoven math imagery-- it adds a richness and fullness to the poem from beginning to end. As well I enjoyed the parellels you draw in each stanza. An all around fascinating equation-- love it!
