First Love's Lost

First Love's Lost

A Poem by likesgreeneggsandham

I stuffed loneliness between the pages

Curdled confines of longing within my bounds

Strings of sauciness poured from my skin

As I held one man’s lips

Another’s gaze

I knew I would not easily find who I was searching for

One who had razed through my heart with his pen knife

He who held pain so closely to him and raised it

Like a weapon of love

And love him I did

His heavy-handed wisdom

Our layers of history

His accent a lilting kindness

Charm a card he played

Handsome as the day I met him in Temple Bar

That flash of his gold car

We whizzed around the country in

Meeting faeries at great green pools of yearning

What a beautiful poem. Felt the emotions which seemed to pour out from it, it's like looking through the eyes of a lover still thinking back to "that day" with painful sorrow in the first half...

however how it's worded in the latter half of this poem it speaks of a time that seems missed and held onto with a lightly fond reminiscence.

I like how, in all of your writing, you are the strong character - even at low tide.

First love is always memorable - and your intertwining of metaphorical wordplay taking the reader down through the stanzas is mesmerising! He may have used the famous 'Blarney A Stone' for according to legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with the gift of a silver tongue. Great write - loved it... :-)

A gorgeous poem! I was absolutely hooked from the first line - the feel, sound and imagery of "I stuffed loneliness between the pages.. " were just beautiful I thought. The emotions in this are raw and tangible (as though you have bled on the page) but they are written a beautiful and polished way.

Thank you! So kind. The longing and memories were flowing up a flood when I wrote it.
This speaks to me profoundly. You hold more than beauty at your pens tip, but convey life as it is in its realness, speaking of pain and motives, lust, turmoil and tenderness.

We never know what it is that will turn our heads. But you know as we age we find what we desire most is the true love that will always be there when we get home. mature love is the best. It doesn't ring with tingling excitement .What it does is give us self worth. and piece of mind.
