MEA CULPA

MEA CULPA

A Poem by Clark Vincent

MEA CULPA
I betrayed the trust that you earnestly keep.
Instead of making you smile, I made you weep.
You gave me all your love, care, and attention,
But I matched it disappointments and a lot to mention.
Instead of sharing everything to you, I kept it as my own,
Instead of giving you my time, excuses were all that was shown.
Instead of listening to you, I went on and made the same mistakes.
Instead of taking care of you, I gave you heartaches.
Incomplete is the word that describes me right now,
I want to fill it with you, but I don't know how.
I tried to stay away, with all the guilt of what I've done.
Ashamed to say the least, contrite, with all hope gone.
I know that no matter how many times I say I'm sorry,
Deep down you'll still have that fear and worry.
I deeply never meant to hurt you, hope you'll understand,
Oh I'd give up everything, just for me to hold you hand.
Me not showing up means not that I forgot about you,
It's not even me finding somebody new.
I'm just afraid you'll get tired of me,
So please don't forget me, listen to my plea.
As the popular song goes;
If I am, another waste of everything you've dreamed of,
I'm sorry to say, I will let you down.
If you think that I am here to watch you as you suffer,
I'm sorry to say, I will let you down.
If you think that I'm gonna waste everything I've learn from all this,
I'm sorry to say, I will let you down.
If I am, another failure of a relationship you've had,
I'm sorry, I will let you down.
