First and Last

First and Last

A Poem by George Love
"

Prom night ends tragically

"

First and Last

Was all for nothing?
Was all he could think.
The life’s blood he witnessed
Darkly stained the crisp whiteness
Of his pleated shirt.
Beside him she lay
So gorgeous even in this state
As a trickle ran from her eye to her lips
All strength now drained
The sirens break the night
So softly in their ears.
Lights fade as they close their eyes,
Help summoned so prompt, but ever so late
How can they tell them
When they meet them on that other side?
We knew it was wrong
But it was just once for this one night.
How were we to know
They wanted both our money
And their drugs?

This poem reminded me of the song "Kiss it all better" and all ends in tragic moments where one of the people dies. You have placed a intriguing question in the last line which really makes the reader think of the ending. You have captured my attention reading this. Very vivid imagery and the nice flow of scenes presented in a problematic situation. Well done!
