Love Me Do You?

Love Me Do You?

Love Me Do You?

What could he say to the question placed before him?
Was this a serious request, placed for serious answer?
Was it a trap, deemed to flush out demented minds?
Pondering over, wanting answers, none could be found.
Seemed so bright at first, a child looking for guidance
Accepted the hand he offered, thinking nothing more
Far wiser in years and knowledge to share
Thought nothing would ever come from that smile
Easy, so easy turned she his eye
From all others round him, now he was hers
Thinking how marvelous this could be made
If ever she could only make one first move
And move, yes she did, yet on screen she did write
Love me do you? You know I love you.
He knew she said it in times life was hard
Yet thought nothing past only the child sweet regard
For thoughts of kindness, yes he did offer
And a hand to help up when life pushed her down
Nothing, yet nothing brought this bear
That question now burning sat on his screen
And into deep thought now he did go
For answering no, a child might destroy
And answering yes, from this could be dark
For none know the meaning of words on a screen
Tis all but black and white, no emotions held dear
Yet answer he must the child’s burning question
But was all just one more life’s lesson?
Standing he paced while pondered this thought
Should all be brought down to one simple word?
Maybe no answer was much simpler that way
And then the play passed by for one more bright day
Still she asked and never before
Had ever this thought been brought from innocence?
Still to answer, and fall to a trap?
Pacing now pacing he racks his brain,
All his might he powers this question
And caution thrown down, he types quick response.
As if you were my own, I love you as my child
Having none of my own, I share this with you
To help carry you forward in this brave and cruel world
Tis not the answer you wanted to the question you asked
So guidance I offered and given my hand
Love you will find and love you have found
Only romance will never cross from my hand to yours
Forbidden it is my love you to share
Honor my wish, and help stay our course
As I honor yours, and lift away your fears.
Reading now this, her head so it hangs
Loving, oh loving was to be her demand
Rejected is she, but love finds her heart
And now sets sight for later demands
Win him she will, and win him she must
It is all the chase, and to her is the prize.
Laughing inward, she smiles her best smile
Looking to see what time there be left
And making more questions to lead him to her
As once into woman she desires to be made,
Yet why not the one who leads her so fair?
Age matters not when love is so strong
She, yes she would not be denied
Dressing herself simply and to him she now goes
The hour at hand when he guides her studies
Ask him again as she enters the room
Love me do you? You know I do you.

Very well written George! The emotions of longing, yet knowing this love was wrong was so tangiable. Some very good stanzas throughout and you obviously put a lot of thought into this. A very strong write. Thank you for submitting this to my "Keeping the Dream Alive". ~ Helena

Was reading this in the Summer Dreams contest. I think the piece is pretty good but can't see at all how it relates to summer since summer is not even mentioned here. Also, the "he did offer" and "he did go" is forced sounding. Since the piece is supposed to be prose, try "he offered" and "he went". No one says, "he did go" and certainly not in poetry. Just some sound advice. Take it for what it's worth.
