Anatomy Lesson

Anatomy Lesson

A Poem by Constance
"

An ode to my ex husband, who I am glad is ex. Written some time ago.

"

I gave you a heart

already wounded and bleeding

frayed at the edges, struggling

to become whole, restless,

fragile as a wine glass.

It must have been too tempting,

the urge to watch it shatter-

much more fun for you

than letting it heal, making it whole-

much easier than trying to mend

the fragilities of a woman bereft.

The shards have been pieced

and glued back together,

a part of the fixative

your memory and my sorrows,

and the heart of glass has become

a heart of concrete, veins of steel?

No, it may not be so fragile

the bleeding may have ended,

the cracks may be healing,

but it will never be a heart

as cold and hard as your own,

as I would die before I would become you.

Love this, I'm glad you won something in the Devastated contest. You should have placed higher, yours was much better than many of the others. I know this may have been an older poem. But it was well written and as much of your work, easily got the message across and at the same time displays your growth and strengths.

I felt that the wording was done with much passion . The way that you discribe your vulnerabilty ,laying your heart on the line, lends to the over all effect. The heartbreak and it's effect on your already bruised heart is wonderfuly expressed. Truly a piece of art!
