The Song of Humanity (Inspired by Church Bells)

The Song of Humanity (Inspired by Church Bells)

A Chapter by Constance-Outspoken

I had to stop in the middle of doing other things today because the bells of the church near my home (less than a full block away) were playing an unusual song. "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkle. This song, when instrumental, is so achingly beautiful. Anyway, it made me think, and inspired me to write this poem:

So many people

Floating through the wide deep ocean

That is life as we know it

Yearning to be heard because

We all have a voice that yearns

To find an un-deaf ear and we

Cry out when alone for someone

To hear our humble utterances

To find only silence echoing

Politely through a dim hall.

If a tree falls in a forest and there is

No one there to hear it does it

Make a sound?

Oh yes!

That sound

May remain trapped for eternity

In a bubble of hope

Yet the sound was formed

It took shape, came abruptly to life

Born into a thoughtless world,

It may not have moved mountains

But it moved the speaker

Or would not have been spoken.

In a cacophonous sea of word and sound

It is improbable to separate

The multitudes of voices

Yet they remain there- a part-

Integral,necessary.

Without each individual voice

The cacophony would become

Harmonious, yes, but honest?

The true sounds are the most exquisite

Silence yourself and you will become

The destructor of the truth:

The life and living rhythm

Giving poignant honesty

To the song of

Humanity.

Wow...this poem makes me want to do things I shouldn't be doing...(dancing; I shouldn't ever be dancing). You put into words, and pictures in the mind, the voice that everyone deserves. Yours should definitely be heard... And if it isn't, then shame on the world. We should be proud to lend an ear only to hear humanity's song through you. Very, very beautiful.

...Simon and Garfunkle, huh? lol.
