As she wanders she wonders what if

As she wanders she wonders what if

A Story by Jada Johnson
"

do you ever catch yourself dreaming about the what ifs?

"
I don’t know what brought me here but I’ll continue walking, she can’t stop wandering, her heart is like a magnet to this colossal city. her feet feels like it should never stop wandering and her mind seems like it should be repainted with all different shades of the rainbow. as she continues, continues to walk she begins to wonder how many artistic souls walk and live in this marvellous city. as she begins to look around her visions seem to come alive and open her eyes, mind, and heart even more. the lights that shine through these streets have enlightened her. she’s spun around in circles trying to figure out if her dreams can become a reality. she wonders if she’ll be able to capture each and every soul that passes her by hoping she’ll find her soulmate. at this point her mind feels like it’s about to begin a race, and the tension doesn’t seem like it will ever go away.

the tension has brought her to realize that reality is a lovely place but I don’t think anyone would want to live there. but she wonders if she can still imagine her self finding love in this city, she tells herself not to give up on love, and with that thought she begins to look out in the busy streets. the world has stopped in silence, a sudden pause has happened, she gets flashbacks of how her life could be living in this strange city. the silence isn’t so bad until she looks at her hands and feels sad cause the spaces between her fingers are right where his fits perfectly.

she thinks to herself what if we lived on the wrong side of the town but slept on the right sides of the bed. what if he stares at you every time you look away, what if the way he looks at you was really him looking deeply pass your hypnotizing looks and into your soul, so deep that he has now grasp information about you that you didn’t even know about yourself. what if the music that’s being produced by the guy on the side of the road with the half broken guitar has managed to bring you guys together, something strange has happened, we are now in these streets dancing, the classic holding hands and step by step dancing and laughing has happened.

the laughs are over, and our heads are down and we are scared to look up at each other and stare in each other’s eyes, our minds are rapidly thinking of what if… what if we just.. she slowly lifts her head up as his follows the motion is in sync and in slow motion and the pressure has increased. a sudden warmth has occurred and their bodies are now planted on this street, they have taken a step further, one last thought is thought about, and they’ve both been thinking about the same thing, and now it has happened. a kiss was planted.

she touches her lips and wakes up astounded she’s in the middle of the streets remembering that it was all just a dream she looks around to see if it was too good to be true, her hands are waving around feeling nothing but the air just to see if it was all real, she takes a deep breath and as she closes her eyes everything has been erased. so she continues to walk, the streets are still busy, the music has stopped and the guy with the guitar has disappeared and the man of her dreams is now gone, she’s still in the colossal city, her heart is still a magnet, and the paint from the graffiti walls has now repainted her mind, she pulls her self together and pulls the strings of her jacket much tighter, she adjusts the bag that is across her, and she takes one last deep breath, she continues to walk.. and “as she wanders, she wonders what if..”

very cool short story. I'm usually not a huge fan of the "lost love" genre but this one is great, not too overboard. You pulled it off very well. :)

Most welcome..... Mighty..... :)
Sometimes What ifs distracts us from where we need to go, but sometimes they are just what we needed to get our feet to move.

totally agree!
There is a brightly nostalgic undertone, at least for me, in this. It's quite well done. The City as a character, almost, is a nice touch.
