After the Storm

A Poem by Alexandra
"
Wrote this Monday, April 18, 2005 after one of my nightmares … I have had this same dream for years it comes and goes like the plague …
"

Earth breaks open blood flowing from its hull .It's Soil once birthplace of nourishment now no more than tormented flesh of a useless deity . A Tree sheds its last leaf , last gesture of grace .The wind tearing its corps to the ground like a lover seeking rape ,revealing foul creatures within , a squirming mass that consumed it from the core . Flocks of birds strewn over the plane , in convulsion . feathers once shimmering beauty now a dissolving mass burning into tissue ,the skin a painful mass inflamed .The hollow pits where eyes once glanced splendour, raised sky ward praying mercy from a god in chains . Their wings in a spasming dance beating fervently ,longing to once more feel the freedom of earth's weight on soul and body . I walk the city ,find its brood broken turned to statues of dust ,crumbling under the breezes kiss .blowing all pain ,hopes and dreams inside to a darkened sky . From the firmament Stars falling beautiful ,deadly for those who cross there path . The ocean once fertile mother castes her offspring with every wave ,odour of decay spreading fast never to be forgotten . Some where a melody from a child’s toy left no longer needed ,for what good is it to its owner when all game ends .
