Unrequited

Unrequited

Now do I know Love's most deliquescent inhumanity
a virulent blindness that purges all
but the lucid sight of splendor
silkily sunkissed clouds
brought, frocked, and wrought in glee
thereto
seek desperately but cannot see
cannot see the beauty of this wanton earth
no life, no light
no passion no mirth
neither pain nor purpose
all but when thou art not nigh
 apart
you withdraw Springs maturity
and shroud Autumns birth
leaving Nightingales' song as sad as Ruppells' cry
and force my heart to find cheer where there is but dearth
but when thy feet flutter the dull, and thou
with lurid eyes dawn upon my sorrow
sudden;y impels murmurs from every bough of every tree
and the sunkissed swelling of clouds avow
the ground buoyant as the ether now
all truly looks lovely across the eye of thy radiant sea
and my heart, once so sick and sallow
quickens so for thee
