Innocence that once was
The enigma of childhood memories

Images of dreams had
Entombed in the elderly place

The gaze of youthfulness passed
Time cannot be halted

The cycle of life at an end
Regrets of looking back

The return of one's self
Feelings of melancholy take over

Reality is cruel
Nothing accomplished

Happiness nowhere to be found
Except in a child's smile

This is a beautiful piece, very expressive. Truly everyone can relate to this piece in some way, which is a rare thing in poetry since we humans are all so very different. Lovely write.

I like this one alot. I reckon that many people (myself included) would be happy to be a child again, to return to a time before their dreams and the simple joy of life were smothered by cold reality. Back when the whole world could be a beautiful, endless plain of possibility. First and last stanzas were my favorites. Some very good word choice.

Growing old is mandatory..growing up is not! We all hanker for that time when we didn't have a care in the world..they don't realise it's the best years of your life..lovely poem

The innocence of children is underrated. It is so hard to deal with, the idea that once time has passed there is no going back. It is very hard to see that and to find happiness.

This is a great piece, short and sweet. I really liked reading this!
