pink best friends

pink best friends

A Story by allison

I glanced at her while we were laughing out of control and every memory I've had with her laced themselves up my legs and across my chest, guarding my heart and streaming the release of dopamine from my brain.
Running from the bridge back to her house at 2am while I played Youth on my phone. Shaky audio never made me feel steady until that night.
Screaming on a park table about all of our problems. I ripped my pink rose crown off and screamed about how angry my mom made me.
The first night I stayed the night with her. I laughed until I couldn't breathe, we made fake British vlogs while wearing awful fedoras and drawn on whiskers.
Night swimming in my backyard with color changing pool lights and tiki torches while listening to the local radio station on my boom box.
Pushing her around in a shopping cart in Walmart and squeezing in large stuffed animals with her and screaming "free gifts for the lesbians!"
Fake glasses, TV show binges, getting drunk together, screaming the lyrics to our favourite songs, being roommates, ranting to each other, photo shoots, lake days, getting matching clothes and hats, crying on each others shoulders, raising our hands high while we stand in the sunroof and drive around town feeling invincible, weird laughs, secrets, watching the fireworks above the lake while floating outside of a boat with colorful LED lights underneath it,everything.
It all hit me in a split second and my entire body wrapped itself up in a smile while I frantically danced and belted out hooks of songs in the backseat of my best friends car.
