Bergamot

Bergamot

A Poem by Dalton

The silent, unseen musk
is an alluvion to my dry bedroom.
Douse my heart in thy bergamot,
and then dip me in thy fume.

Whilst swooning in this scent of her,
which saturates the air,
the sombre state which I prefer
has switched without my care.

Fractals of your radiant voice
drift from your lipstick mouth.
A benison abides in your north
and is equaled by your south.

All your melodies murmur warmly
as I clasp your little waist.
I mummify our moment here,
unto memory with happy haste.

The heat of my longing livens
every filament of my flesh within.
With every beat, my pleasure pulses
and parades through my skin.

I insufflate the electric, ephemeral
stories of her pain and hope.
Every spiced stage is memorable,
and it implores me to cope.

Her presence is all triumphant,
even now that I’ve returned her home.
Her fragrance is all abundant,
and quells me from feeling alone.

Bergamot blooms, thy blessing,
unto flowers. I huff in thy musk.
Truly, I am confessing
that I smile in this redolent dusk.

When I think of bergamot I think of Earl Grey tea...a drink often shared with friends and loves through the years; a warm citrus scent wafting from end tables and patios. A particular friend comes to mind...she died quite literally of a broken heart. But she left with me her perfumes of bergamot, sandlewood and mulberry. They are good memories. The piece has a nostalgic, romantic feel; moody and perhaps a bit sad but it finishes with a smile. I believe all the best stories do. I enjoyed the read. Blessings of peace, love and light.

I have written previously of "the breath between a kiss," and this poem smolders with that type of intensity. That beautiful cosmic dance of two lovers forever emblazoned upon the mind, its sensuality dances across the screen, its timber slowly burning from its fire.

"mummifying the moment"

i have a few of those mummified in my mind...

you have such a wonderful way of using language---the personification, imagery and metaphor combine sublime.
