An Immortal, Undead Night

An Immortal, Undead Night

A Poem by Danielle Nicole
"

If you don't believe in things that go "Bump" in the night... It's time you met them.

"

She runs through the alleyway in the dead of night.
Where demons and ghouls give humans a fright.
Many a person has fallen and died;
At the hands of the demons-
The demons of the night.

Men afflicted by disease hunt the wicked night.
Lycanthropy is the disease that humans must fight.
Lycan men are a brutal breed-
Upon all forms of people, the werewolf feeds.
His jaw smells of flesh-
Rotten and decayed.
His skin is leathery,
His hide is strong.
A silver bullet helps humans fight long.
But if his prey has slightly bad aim,
Then the slayer will strike his prey again.
And they will not see the light of day.

Vampires are beautiful...
Vampires are strong...
Their pale skin hides,
A secret that’s strong.
They hold the strength of a thousand men.
Only a stake can cause them pain.
Until then they afflict pain and sorrow.
For blood from a human is what they "borrow".
They feed of humans, like you and me.
Either converting us- or making us bleed.
And once they suck their victims dry-
They hide from the sunlight till the next night.
And once that night has come around;
Another feast must be found.

Zombies are creatures of rot and decay.
Maggots do feast on them wherever they may.
And when a zombie rises from the dead,
It’s nearly impossible to rest your head-
For they are demonic, and up to no good.
They love to feast on whole neighborhoods.
Their already dead,
Which is why it is said;
They never do rest as dead again.
Their stubborn and smart;
Dangerous and from the start;
Impossible to kill- killing zombies is an art.
And if you don't have the skills,

Then from your life, you must part.

Demons are creatures that give you a fright.
Possessing powers that you cannot fight.
They come in all shapes,
And all different sizes.
There uncanny powers are full of surprises.
Demonic needs and demonic values
Leave humans’ dead, or lacking value.
They torture you cruelly,
And then eat you alive.
When you meet with a demon, there’s no way you will survive.

Undead night,
Come out and play.
But if you do, you'll never see another day.
Immortal night,
Full of fright.
Come out and play,
Or die the next day.

Greetings from the host of the contest "Of Blood and Eternity".

This is a very macabre poem you have here. I like the inclusion of all different manner of supernatural horrors. The descriptions of werewolves, vampires, and demons are well done. I very much like the monster theme of this piece and the warning to be wary of those creatures of the night.

One thing though, which isn't something wrong with the poem, is that what you call a zombie in this piece more closely matches that of the "ghul" or "ghoul" that originates from Arabian folklore. Zombies as the masses see them today are very different than traditional zombie folklore. A short internet search will yield this information. Even so, it's not something many people are aware of.

Thank you for entering my contest.
