A 14-Second Strategy For Handling Stress at WorkA Story by Darren EisnerHave you ever experienced stress at work?Have you ever been at least once in your life in a stressful situation at work and couldn`t brace yourself up to handle it? According to the survey conducted by MacBlogger.org, more than 40 % employees of different areas are exposed to stress in the workplace, one -fifth of the participants is constantly in this state. It is not surprising because there is no work that wouldn`t be related to stress even when you really love what you do. For example, stresses can occur when you have to meet the deadline, to fulfill the demanding obligation, to hold an important event and so on. There are some factors that influence work-related stress. Let`s call them sources of stress. Here they are: - - Lack
of support - - Impossibility
to control work-related decisions - - Excessive
loads - - Few
opportunities for advancement - - Work
without challenges - - Low
salaries - - Misunderstandings
with co-workers and superiors It should
be remembered that we cannot let the work stresses become chronic because if we
do it will affect our health, both mental and physical. Very often it may seem
difficult and even impossible to overcome or just to ignore those stressful
situations. But there is nothing impossible. You might
have heard that if you are stressed out, thinking about something pleasant is
the best way to cope with stress. As it turns out, it really helps. A 14-second strategy for handling stress at work is a direct proof of this. Several
researchers conducted an experiment. They divided 134 participants into two
groups and all the participants had to dip their hands into cold water. One
group had to remember positive
experience for 14 seconds, while another group had to recall neutral
experience. Having compared the levels of cortisol (the stress hormone)
researchers found that those from the first group had the lower level of this
hormone. To make sure they conducted the experiment once again and the results
were the same. So, it is
obvious that to stay calm sometimes it is just enough to recall some positive
moments from our lives. The research also offers to socialize and be yourself.
Try to interact with others, engage them in activities you like. Get positive
emotions, create unforgettable experiences and then it will be easier and
faster to handle the stress or even avoid it. And of
course don`t forget about other methods to overcome stress, like: - - Eat
a piece of chocolate (why not?) - - Slow
and deepen your breath (it reduces adrenaline level) - - Doodle (it
really helps) - - Try
to understand what is the source of your negative emotions and get rid of it
(in case this is not your boss) - - Take
a break - - Ask
for help - - Look
at something green - - Call
your mother Hope
information was useful to read. And the
last advice: do what you love and love what you do then the stress will have fewer chances
of mastering you. © 2018 Darren EisnerAuthor's Note
