Sun Spots

Sun Spots

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I can see clearly

In the face of the sun

That the clouds are an illusion,

Covering the truth about

The sky’s loneliness.

In reality the truth

Was there all the time,

For blue is blue

And it only rains

When the mask

Can’t hide the tears.

When the day breaks

Blood runs cold

Across the world

Inside the sunset’s painting.

For art imitates life,

Life thinks nightfall

Is the end,

But nightfall is just a break

In the world’s sins.

Then when sunrise comes

To shed some light

On what is to come

We will see that it is

Really up to us,

Depending on what side

Of the bed we wake up on.

I love the way this is written to suggest there's a rolling tide of illusions we live under . . . the way your poem describes one aspect rolling into the next . . . each illusion leading to another & another. Everything is an illusion, some would say. We think we're looking at clouds but there's so much more out there where we're looking. We get stuck on the more obvious thing we first notice. Great details & strongly SHOWING as a way of telling (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you for sharing such deep insight into my poetry. I always love when my work does that.
"It only rains when the mask can't hide the tears"....I love that you used the natural world of sky's surrounding and weather to articulate that which lies within each of us. The ending is perfect and draws the reader back to you, the person. Lovely, simple for Dale. And the perfect title (and image) for a piece with a little edge to it. :)

Thank you so much for the praise of my work. It means the world coming from you.
Interesting musings ... well said .. smart metaphor and personifications .. love the rain and mask in this .. very creative cool! interesting as your voice declares the night as respite for sinning ... as creepy crawly nasties slink out under the cover of darkness ;) for me this is one to read a few times to glean more each time ... and who can argue with your closing .. not i quacked the duck :)

Thank you for the insightful and funny review.
Life is life, at times it can be unpleasant. However we have a choice, we can do our optimistic best to ride the storms and make the most of it or sink into the depths of misery. That's where your lines took me Dale. All good wishes.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and reading my words.
So... do we get up on the Elephant side of the Bed or the Donkey side of the Bed... or are we Independent and just slide down to the bottom and slip offf the end. Sorry... but I would rather just rise above it all and fly away until both parties decide to compromise and do the best for our country. truly, Pat

i like the philosophical nature of this write...it is up to us to make either side of the bed the right one, and to wake up with a tender heart of acceptance and love.
