If My Heart...

If My Heart...

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

If my heart had eyes

I would see the danger signs

so I won’t fall off

the emotional cliffs

and avoid drowning

in the quicksand of pain.

If my heart had ears

I could hear the voices

of those who truly care

And recognize

the distorted sounds

of bad vibrations

throwing me out of tune.

But my heart only has

an emotional hand

that is used to touch

the souls of humanity

even when it gets cut

by the razor of neglect.

so though I may be

blind and deaf

to the worlds evil ways

I can never regret

the fact that I feel

so strongly for those

loved ones in my life.

Yes I do have a heart

for that I will never apologize.

Beautiful simply beautiful. The heart is a wonderful thing for it can love and that is one of the most beautiful feeling that can be felt. And if we could not feel the pain of a broken heart then how would we know how beautiful love felt.
I love your words, They give more meaning than one can know at just a glance. These are words to be savored and thought about.
Love it. This one goes to my favorites.

This is amazing. Deeply emotional but with a light touch. Wonderful, wonderful work. I'm glad I found it this morning.

Good for you... and you shouldn't! I think having a real heart is a strength and NOT a weakness. This was both eloquent and touching, Dale...I truly love it and can relate very much...excellent! :-)

I love that last line- "Yes I do have a heart for that I will never apologize."!
This really spoke to me personally with all the crap that's going on in my life right now, so thanks so much for sharing!

What your poem brings to my mind is that you've discovered a hard truth. I've discovered it too, and slowly I'm finding a place that rests gently between a world too rough and the soft place I need. It's sad that it is this way, yet I know it is so. Kudos to you for an excellent poem. :+)

Cool poem. This could have been a sad sob story of a broken heart, instead you turned it into a virtuous poem about your ability to feel. Fav lines:
"even when it gets cut
by the razor of neglect."

Cool personification.

Wished my heart could have ears! This is great. I like the fourth stanza! Very powerful! Great poem!

If our hearts could do all of these things in order to guide us away from danger, we wouldn't feel as deeply as we do. I realize that sounds a little twisted, but it's true. If the heart was always safe it would have no real reason to race, to flutter, to melt and, of course.... it wouldn't break either. I'd rather take my chances with the break in order to feel all of the other things, for those are the feelings that make us truly alive.

You out-did yourself on this one doll. What a man.
