A Dance To Remember

A Dance To Remember

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Across the floor I went

My knees about to fold

Not sure what to say

Not really expecting a yes

But with last call said

It was my only chance.

A sincere yes out something

I haven’t felt in quite a while…

Confidence!!

Stepping on the dance

We moved in step

Hands locked tightly

Bodies close enough

To know what each other

was feeling.

Not a word was spoken

For our movements said it all…

Life is still there.

When the last note faded

So did you into the crowd

Leaving me to trip home alone

But giving me so much more

To look forward to.

That moment we shared

Had showed me…

I have a lot of dancing left to do.

Every time that sweet tune

Haunts my ears

I will remember you

Beautiful woman

Whose name I never knew.

Forever I will be grateful

For giving me…

A second chance.

A very wistful feeling about this. It floats and moves about just like a dance. You captured the feeling of uncertainty at the beginning. But the ending is so poignant. Very touching statement of lost hope being recaptured just from a simple dance. Makes one realize how much we can touch others with such simple kindnesses.
I liked it a lot!

"so if you get a choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance"
Leann Womack

My take on this is about having the courage to take a chance, regardless of the outcome. If you don't, you may miss out on something great.

Great flow and imagery... I love the line "I have a lot of dancing left to do."

i thought of Brad Paisleys song WE DANCED.. as I read your poem.... I agree with the others ... about the uncertainty... and finally the confidence that came afterwards... I totally enjoyed the flow of the entire poem... it was smooth ... I enjoyed it all

Sounds much like the predecessor to Garth Brook's the Dance. I loved this...the apprehension and the longing...and yet the bravery it takes to stand there waiting for an answer....PERFECT

Keep up the search, one day you will find her I am sure. A nice fun piece of writing, could almost feel the music as you danced. Shame it had such a sad ending. But memories are always there to bring a smile to your face when you feel most alone. XX

This is a sweet piece. It left a smile on my face at the end. It's so realistic as well...dancing with someone and not remembering their name, but always remembering them. Great write!

Loved the build of this piece, along with the confidence growing. Oh, what music and a dance with someone special does to us! I'm glad I've got to enjoy many in the last 21 years with the only one who makes my heart dance with the beat of his :). I wish this for you and that special someone too. Nothing else like it. This piece gets the mind reminiscing and the heart to beating faster, hearing the music as we read.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece.
Keep looking for her...
Kelly
