The Hardest Part Is The Night

The Hardest Part Is The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As the sun runs away

From another day

Leaving the sky's soul black

The time I dread is here

For it is a portal to

The lonely side of my soul.

Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you…

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart.

Teasing it with hidden

Thoughts beneath

Their cold smoke and mirror

Existence to my lonesome reality

Whose bite is far worse

Then the bark killing the silence.

Yet no matter how isolated

The witching hour

Bestows upon my incomplete heart

I will ride out

My time in purgatory

Even if it means dying alone.

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

When the clock strikes midnight

I’d rather play

Solitaire with my soul

Cause I can’t be with someone

Just to be there

Even though…

The hardest part is the night.

WOW!! your poetry really amazes me,, I absolutley enjoy reading what
you write,, it's so clear to the eyes, and written with such passion,
you have a great talent and I love your style of writing, two parts are
my favorites:

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

and.........

Cause I can't be with someone

Just to be there

I love it!! you just wont take anyone to just to have someone, the intelect and
stimulation of the mind that meshes with yours is essential!! great work!!

So beautiful the way you writte. I love the rythm of your words dancing that melodie of sadness. The darkness can be frightening but also very enlightening you know?

Thank you so very much.
i almost wanted to shave off the last two lines...

and see it stop at "just to be there"--

there is torment here...a wrestling with the idea of having someone in our life, just to have someone...is it better to be alone or to do that.

excellent piece, glad it resurfaced, Dale.

Thank you very much.
I really enjoyed reading this poem- it's tender, genuine, and heartfelt. In general, I feel like the nighttime and darkness is better suited for lovers and romance.

Yikes! That first verse pulled me down, down, down into the darkest of moods. I loved the above lines, too.
