Heart Over Mind

Heart Over Mind

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Just a quick thought

"

I am always hearing

Mind over matter,

But sometimes I wonder

In the end

Does the mind matter?

When it comes to love

It don’t know jack.

The word compassion

Is like a foreign land.

It analytical ideas

Only hinder humanity.

Maybe we would be better off

If the heart ruled the mind.

I've often given the advice that only when the heart and the mind agree can you find true happiness. But that can be taken too far. Analyzing feelings or, worse, trying to analyze those of another, can be a recipe for hurt, disappointment, and disaster. Sometimes you do have to tell the mind to be quiet and listen to the heart. Well written.

That would be beautiful! But sometimes mind isn't *that* bad. Some decisions aren't supposed to be made by the heart. So, I'll be looking to find that much needed balance between the two and auntil then, I shall let my heart make the decisions.

I don't know... following my heart has gotten me into some of the most painful situations in my life. Don't know if that's good or bad. Some say that life without pain has no meaning, maybe following my heart just gives my life meaning.

This is such a tough one. Heart and head.....Difficult to say which is correct...or indeed ...is there a right and wrong...probably depends on situation. Follow your heart..to where...or stop...and follow your head....if both don't agree...which one do we turn to ??? Which one will let us down ?? Maybe we WOULD be better off if our heart ruled the mind as you say ....that way...we could'nt get it wrong !! I think...lol
Well thought out...Thanks.

Love is a tug of war between the heart and the mind. Our mind tells us to behave, but our heart causes us to act foolish, imo, the heart wins, everytime, no doubt.

If the heart ruled the mind, don't you think the world would be better off? Some say yes, some say no.

For the passionate, the heart matters just as much as the mind.........I guess the key is balance, as in all things.

I think that this was a great piece due to the fact your wondering if the heart rules the mind , and yes I believe that it does for every time you heart feels some thing the mind try to tell it different..I had a lot of times were I felt in mt heart things were not right but my mind kept saying no , but come down to it the heart overruled it and told the truth..Always trust the heart Dale an I miss ya man great to see another great poem..Belinda

This was a thinking poem, lol.

I love it though. You can really think about this. And you did a nice job at writing it.

This piece has a few high spots. "Does the mind -matter-" is a nice pun. I feel that the colloquial diction and mostly bumpy flow hinder the poem.

In regards to the question that it poses, I think the answer should be clear. When objective analysis and higher level thoughts are overcome by the subjective, unanalytical motives of the "heart" (which is a portion of the mind to begin with) we don't see humanity come together in peace and love; we see humanity descend into violence and baseless hatred.
