Can I Be Pretty Too?

Can I Be Pretty Too?

A Poem by Katherine S.
"

A poem I wrote.

"

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I wish I could feel how it is to be the fairest of them all.
All the other girls I see,
They have such beauty only I could dream.

Mirror, mirror, maybe they'd start to care,
If you could see my ribs more clear.
If i can skip all my meals,
I'll have a body that will make the boys gawk.

Mirror, mirror, look at the curvy girls I see,
I wish I had an hourglass shape to suit me.
But for I can only dream,
To have smooth skin instead of stretch marks and cellulite.

Mirror, mirror, my face even looks disformed,
Maybe this makeup will make me look pretty?
Not even the cover up lies,
Can cover up the monster I see inside.

I thought we had nothing in common, nothing, then I read
your poem and discovered that we see you the same.
Would you like to know exactly how you look to a handsome,
passionate man..... It could happen.

girl that a pretty poem but, to think your not pretty is very low self esteem for yourself... stand up and get the chance to tell yourself your perfect just the way you are

Normally I would just copy and paste the lyrics of a song, but this some how brought me back to 1988

Is there thunder in your heart,

is every move like lighting,

when you get older you find them.

Thanks for the review. :)
Very few people are really happy with the way they look, but beauty is only skin deep anyway. Inner beauty counts for far more. To find the inner beauty of someone you have to get to know them. I know quite a few 'pretty' people who are not that pretty on the inside! A sad and thought-provoking write. Thanks for sharing. ~ Robert.

I'll split this into two parts. One being my opinion on this whole matter and the other being the actual review.

Opinion: I think it is disgusting what people do to make themselves "pretty". Wearing 2 pounds of makeup and barely eating enough to stay alive is nowhere near beautiful. Beauty is but a construct. Everyone is beautiful then nobody is. Beauty doesn't even have to be a thing! I found this piece to very accurately portray this issue. Masking yourself is no way to live. I say stab your ego and be who you wish to be. If you still want to be a skeleton for some reason then I guess go for it. But only doing it for acceptance is just sad. Society has really fucked itself.

Review: Absolutely fantastic content. I felt it could have "flowed" better but that really doesn't matter. The message is clear, in my mind. Wonderful.

Wow, this poem really hits home for me. I am so self-conscious and I never want to eat because for this reason or that, I believe I am not pretty enough or not good enough. I believe most girls are like that, but we all need to realize that we are enough. Whoever tells us we're not isn't good enough to be around us. I really liked this, it was really relateable. Thank you for sharing.
