Hiccups

Hiccups

A Poem by Ryan Patrick Walsh
"

Hiccups. Misunderstandings. Empathy. Perspective.

"

I'm what I can and can't do,

Through these eyes,

shades of fear and damage.

Through these eyes,

black and white and

anger and vengeance,

If I shouldn't see how you felt,

would you empathize?

And could they see

your colored wisp in the wind,

blowing by itself in time,

the most beautiful line

hiding in the background?

It's easier to pretend

it's all about something else,

After all,

This isn't personal,

it's business,

not cold,

Just caring from a distance,

Not me,

It's hiccups,

holding your breath,

focusing on something else,

pretending you're someone without them,

I'm not him I swear,

It's a different era every second

and I'm someone else entirely,

hic
