Nam Vets

Nam Vets

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

Inspired by Comments made by Sam Dickens and Sue Hart on my poem "Over The Crimson Sky" My generation of warrior came home heroes. Nam vets got spit on and called "baby burners." That was a travesty.

"
Vietnam veterans
are owed an apology
They were the scapegoats
of failed foreign policy
They're unsung heroes
They should be given their due
Vietnam veterans
This veteran salutes you

Thank you mr Dunne
I have two uncles that fought in Vietnam. I will have to share this to my mom cuz she feels the same way. the soldiers in Vietnam fought just like soldiers in any other war, but when they came back we called them baby killers and hated them. its sad.

Yes it was. Thanks Ginger
We remember, brother. No matter what, you were carried with us when we choked down the dust in Iraq and humped up those mountains in the 'Stan. Soldiers care for Soldiers even when no one else will, remember that. We'll all have a drink at Fiddlers Green.

Nicely stated my friend and a stinking sad state of affairs. Nothing like fighting for your country and then your country puts you out with the trash.

Reminds me of, in the shadow of the blame surrender was not an option.

I love the topics you choose for your poetry. My grandfather is a Vietnam veteran and I read this to him. He wanted you to know that he is thankful that someone appreciates what he has done. You have touched me and my family. Thank you

Thank you so much. I am quite moved.
Its so sad, and i so share this sentiment that your poem highlights wonderfully.... so time will just erase them, is how they feel treated to me... and even more lost now, because of wars more recent receiving more attention, because they are 'new' and young... and not homeless yet.... but them, old vets, easy to treat them as beggars now... your poem shows the underbelly of our great shame.

It's a disgrace not only how Vietnam Veterans are treated, but the manner in which many members of the military end up being treated in general. Even should they return from war without physical ailments, there are many who suffer severely from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) upon their return - some are even sent home suffering from such a condition only to be called back to service to be put through hell all over again. And they are shamed into a "code of silence" that makes them feel like they are "man" enough if they were to speak out about the mental torture they are left to endure while still on active duty.
