The Jumper

The Jumper

A Poem by Jessica Elaine Stevens [Faiteach]

 I wonder sometimes,

if I could open some obligatory

"No Access" door

to the roof

of a towering building

and touch the place where

its balding, gravel-covered scalp

scraped against the sky

and standing

on the precipice of its forehead

wait for the growth spurt

that would bring about my wings-

pale white hearty feathers

outreaching translucent

fingertips

that brush, lightly, the ceilings of imagination-

and with arms outstretched-

breast heaving, full of clean air,

bare and open and exposed,

allow my weight to shift

preponderantly onto my toes

aching to grab hold

and release-

Intense poem, the way you've ordered it forces you to rush along with the words, closer and closer to the precipice.

I do love the darkness interwoven so deeply beneath the beauty of the words. The picture it paints in the mind's eye is so vivid. As always I enjoy your talent.

Your command of language/vocabulary, and the vividness of your imagery makes you one of the most accomplished poets I've ever had the pleasure of reading. You have a beautiful way with words.
