Dark and lonely description of my everyday watching my father battle brain cancer.

The Long Shadows of Late Afternoon

As the shadows grow long

My soul grows weary

Is today the final day

Of this not long enough story

I fight the thoughts

All day long

No worries for me

I say

As I pretend to be strong

When faced with the day

It’s all hope and wonder

As the shadows grow long

I am strong no longer

It’s time for a drink

A smoke

A toke

Or should I invite a girl

You know

For a quick poke

I need a distraction

Something not real

It leads me to this place

Where I suppress my fear

No one can see

My thoughts are for me

Which is good

Because I am the only one here.
